There are two common types of PayPal payment methods offered by Jotform for online forms. Namely, the following:
- PayPal Personal (Personal Account)
- PayPal Business (Business Account)
People often ask, what are the differences between the two? Well, the short answer is the checkout experience.
Here are the known differences between the two PayPal payment types.
PayPal Personal
When using PayPal Personal, your form will redirect your customers to the secure PayPal payment page when they submit your form. They have two options to pay:
- Log in and pay with their preferred funding method with PayPal.
- Pay with Debit or Credit Card – this only works when you enable the PayPal Account Optional or Guest Checkout.
Note
- The PayPal Account Optional or Guest Checkout is only available to supported countries like the US, Canada, and the UK. If you created your account within these countries, click here to access your PayPal preferences, and enable PayPal Account Optional feature.
- If you did not enable the Guest Payment/Checkout or if you created your account outside of the supported countries, your customers will see the Create Account button instead.
When your customers click the Pay with Debit or Credit Card button, a separate page will open where they can enter the payment details.
Here are demo forms you can try:
PayPal Business
Using PayPal Business allows your customer to pay directly in the form. It does not redirect them to the PayPal payment page regardless of the payment method they choose. That provides your customer with a seamless checkout experience. They have two options:
- Debit or Credit Card
- PayPal
If your customers choose the Debit or Credit Card option, they must enter their card details, as shown in the image below.
If they choose PayPal, the PayPal Checkout button is displayed. Once they click the button, they must log in to their PayPal account to pay.
Note
PayPal may provide your customers with an Alternative Payment Method (APM) based on their location. For example, Sofort and iDEAL for customers from the Netherlands. Please check the following link from PayPal for the complete list.
Here’s a demo form you can try PayPal Business.
Setting Up an Account
When using PayPal Personal, all you need to do is use an existing PayPal Personal account. Enter your PayPal email address/username on the PayPal Payment wizard, and you’re ready to make transactions.
While with PayPal Business, you’ll need a PayPal Business account. You can create your PayPal Business account easily online. For credit card payments, PayPal may require extra information about your company. That’ll take up to an average of 3-6 working days to get approval.
Merchant Fees
There are no differences in the transaction fees between PayPal Personal & PayPal Business. For Fees, please check this pricing table from PayPal.
What’s your pick? Please tell us your thoughts in the comments section below.

FYI As of July 28, 2022, PayPal will no longer allow "Friends" - no fee transactions - to a Business account. So if you don't need the Business level options, go with PayPal Personal or contact them to switch from Business to Personal (if they allow it).

I live in Cameroon. Is it possible to integrate PayPal Personal account into my ecommerce website (as payment gateway) and be able to do withdrawal. Is it also possible with a PayPal Business account.
Thanks and hope to hear from you.

I just connected by form to Paypal Business but when I tried it on the test mode it won't connect; it does connect in the live mode? Why is this?
I also am wondering what is the difference between using the Paypal Business integration and the Paypal Check-out integration and Pay Pay Commerce.
I have a Paypal business account that is connected to a nonprofit

I purchased merchandise on April 14, 2020, through a seller who uses Paypal Pro. To this date I have not received the merchandise.
I have requested a refund from the seller. If I do not hear from the seller, what would be my next step in getting them to refund my money?
Seller: Fullerspace
Cost: $76.50

How do I know if I have Paypal Pro. I set this up so long ago I don't remember. The Company it would be under is Eyellusion Corp. but I don't think I've been paying $30/month so that's why I'm confused. I'm trying to link Paypal Pro, if I have it, with Jotform and am not sure if I've done it. How do I check this out?
Thanks Moni

I have used PayPal on my website for a while now. I use to different boxes for payments, one-time and also recurring. I completed the code on PayPal, and then uploaded it to me WordPress Widget, and it works great.
I recently upgraded to PayPal Pro for my business. Do I have to make any changes to those widgets
and code I already did? Or, is this "Pro" something that I can also make a widget for, that is either "better", or it looks different with the credit card acceptance. ? .
Thanks in advance,

Hello, I am in the process of starting a business, and we are reducing expenses as much as we can in the beginning. So, I want to know, if I get PayPal Payments Standard, do I need a merchant's account, PayFlow, or any other payment gateway?

We have integrated paypal standard into our site but upon checkout we are not seeing the different payment options. It either says "Login" or "Create Account". If you click create account it does take you to paypal guest checkout, but i know our users will quit if they think they have to create an account. the sample form that you all have under another form has "pay with debit or credit card" instead of Create Account. Do you know how we can fix this?

I became aware of PayPal PRO today and tried to access it. I understand that while it is available in the UK and US and the Northern Ireland it is not available in the Republic of Ireland. I am a long standing customer of PayPal. We have a massive HQ of PayPal here in Dublin, just a few miles from where I reside. Why can we not have PayPal PRO.?
Looking forward to hearing from you, preferably with some positive indication that PayPal Pro is going to be available.
With kind regards,
Michael Ringrose,

These really are some of the best WordPress themes. They look fresh and all of them have a different feel about them. I hate it when I see several themes that I fancy. It’s hard making the choice! I have found other Wordpress Free themes
