WHY Supplemental Hebrew?
Knowing a bit of Hebrew opens up the world of the rhythm of Jewish life and the siddur (prayer book). Hebrew infuses every aspect of Jewish life. We use Hebrew to express values like tikkun olam (repairing the world), or shalom bayit (peace in the home). We greet each other on Shabbat with shabbat shalom, and wish each other a good and sweet new year with shanah tovah um'tukah on Rosh Hashanah.
The benefit of an additional 1/2 hour (in the Zoom Hebrew program) to 1 1/2 hour (in the in-person Wednesday Hebrew program) of Hebrew is cementing a foundation for a meaningful Jewish life.
Learning a language takes time, but the investment pays off dividends in confidence when preparing for B’nai Mitzvah, engaging in Jewish rituals, or taking a deep dive into Torah study.
