Since June 10th, we have been running a campaign of sustained nonviolent civil disobedience to end financing for fossil fuels. In the last 6 weeks, we have organized more than twenty protests at Citi’s global headquarters. 364 people have been arrested.
In recent days, Citi has started to push back hard, targeting numerous Summer of Heat leaders and activists with fabricated, trumped-up charges, including issuing restraining orders against some activists.
In response, we’re escalating – to take our campaign directly to the largest clients that Citi cares the most about. Citi makes a HUGE amount of money from its partnerships with large, wealthy companies and institutions. This is one of their largest and most important streams of revenue.
So, we’re going to run a petition demanding that these companies break up with Citi owing to its fossil fuel financing, and then we’re going to deliver those petitions to those companies all across the country, between August 2 - August 9.
The clients we’ll be delivering petitions are Costco, LL Bean, Macy’s, Home Depot, Best Buy, Sears, AT&T
