Plein Air Artists Agreement
The painting area is the downtown area of Tupelo. We will provide a map with some suggested paint locations, but as the artist, feel free to find inspiration anywhere downtown.
The painting area is the downtown area of Tupelo. We will provide a map with some suggested paint locations upon check in, but as the artist, feel free to find inspiration anywhere in the downtown area. We would like our plein air painters to be visible to our community.
Artists must be respectful of the natural landscape and must remove and clean up all materials.
Artists may paint any outdoor subject within the painting area. This event is open to artists using oils, water colors, acrylics, gouache, pastels or pencil/ charcoal. Artwork must be executed outdoors, no interior access is permitted; no photographs may be used. Maximum size of canvas is 16” x 20” unframed and 24” x 28” framed.
Each work to be judged must be started and completed between 9am Thursday, May 11 to Saturday, May 13 by 9am. Additional work can be shown and for sale in the Plein Air Tent, but will not be judged as part of the Plein Air Division of Gumtree Art & Wine Festival.
Check-in and canvas stamping at GumTree Museum is required prior to any work being done. GumTree Museum is located at 211 West Main Street, Tupelo, MS 38804. Check-in times are Thursday, May 11 / Friday, May 12 between 8:00- 10:00am
Submission of finished works is Saturday, May 13 from 8:00am to 9:00am. Deliver paintings to The Plein Air Tent . Each artist may submit up to 10 pieces for the Plein Air Tent. A Plein Air stamp provided at registration must be visible on the back of each piece. All paintings must be appropriately framed, mounted and securely wired for hanging.
The Artist will set the price for each piece. The Artists’ Name, title of the piece, medium used and price will be provided by the artist on a card provided during the submission of the piece. This card will be displayed with the painting in the Plein Air Tent.
Artists will retain all copyright privileges and rights to their work.
Paintings will be exhibited and potentially sold on Saturday, May 13 and Sunday, May 14 (Sunday is optional ) in the Plein Air Tent. We do ask that artists select at least one piece to showcase in the Plein Air Tent on Saturday. (Sunday is optional )
Artists will receive 100% of sale price. Artists are welcome to be on site and available in the Plein Air Tent, but GumTree volunteers will also be there to cover the booth. We encourage our plein air painters to continue painting around the festival site Saturday & Sunday if they are able.
Unsold paintings can be picked up by the Artist at the close of festival, Saturday May 13 / Sunday May 14 @5:00pm .
