This one-day course is designed for physicians who need a basic understanding of musculoskeletal ultrasound of the hip and knee for diagnostic imaging and orthobiologic injections. This course is the preparatory course for the IOF Intermediate and Advanced Hip and Knee Orthobiologic Injection Technique Courses and will provide the attendee with the ability to understand ultrasound terminology, describe the anatomy of the hip and knee, and correctly identify and locate structures under image guidance. This course is intended to provide the necessary foundation in ultrasound before advancing to image-guided needle injection techniques of the hip and knee. This is an excellent fundamentals course for physicians who have not had formal ultrasound training or are using other image guidance for injections but need to acquire the skill of musculoskeletal ultrasound. The trajectory and orientation of needle guidance will be covered through intra-articular injections once the ultrasound-only portion is complete, using the IOF augmented reality technology.
DATE/TIME:

PRE-COURSE REQUIREMENTS:
About two weeks prior to the course, registered attendees will obtain access to the IOF Ultrasound videos for the hip and knee. These videos are about 2.25 hours in length and must be reviewed prior to the course. These videos will be accessible for 30 days after the course. IOF members can access the videos for the lifetime of their membership, allowing members the ability to review the instructional videos often while they increase their skills.
HERE IS WHAT YOU'LL LEARN:
This course will provide an overview of ultrasound terminology, a review of the anatomy of the hip and knee, proper positioning for ultrasound evaluation, identifying specific tissues in the hip and knee, diagnostic ultrasound pearls, indications, and intraarticular hip and knee injections for orthobiologics. The course will start with a didactic review of musculoskeletal ultrasound terminology, anatomy, and pearls and will move into hands-on, live-model diagnostic ultrasound scanning and end with intraarticular injection techniques practiced under the direct supervision of the instructors.
