We’re happy to share a good news with you. The domain suspension at jotform.com has been lifted. If you have changed your forms to one of the alternative domains, you can keep them as they are. We will keep the new domains permanently.
I wish we could provide more details about what happened, but we are also in the dark. We have not been given any information by Godaddy or the Secret Service, other than our domain being suspended as part of an ongoing law enforcement investigation. You can read more details about it on Arstechnica, Wired, CNET, Techdirt, Forbes, Geek.com and TheNextWeb.
In the next few days, we will work hard to restore your confidence in us. A suspension at the domain level is a very harsh punishment for a web service provider. However, we are not in a position to make excuses. You have trusted us and added Jotform forms into your web pages. It’s our top priority to make sure that our service is reliable, and robust.
So, here are some of the permanent solutions we are working on right now.
1. Forms on Separate Domains
Depending on your risk profile, or the country you are in, we will assign a separate domain name to you. (i.e. jotform.us) Any new forms created will only work on that domain name. Our goal is to limit the impact of any possible domain suspensions in the future.
Note that, this will not apply to any existing forms. Your existing forms will work with all domains. This will only apply to the new forms you create.
2. Moved Domains from Godaddy to NameCheap and Hover
Namecheap has been very publicly against SOPA and internet censorship. Hover’s General Manager has personally contacted us and offered his support during our difficult time. I have always been an admirer of the simplicity and beauty of Hover’s user interface. So, we have moved our domains to these registrars.
3. Launched status.jotform.com
We have just launched a new page site to post about our service status updates. You can also contact us from Twitter or Facebook.
4. Use Your Own Domains on Your Forms
It is now possible to use your own domain names on your forms. You can read more details about it here. We have just launched a simple version of this feature, and we are planning to improve it in the next few days.
5. DMCA Safe Harbor
We are considering applying for DMCA Safe Harbor. Although, the requirement of no active monitoring of user activity would not work for us, since we have to actively stop the phishers. Anything less would be irresponsible.
6. Increase Our Efforts to Stop Phishing
Our existing Bayesian phishing filter has been pretty successful at stopping phishing. We are currently discussing what additional steps we can take to stop phishing forms on Jotform. We have scheduled a hackaton next week to try out new ideas.
We’d like to thank everyone who has been patient with us. We believe that without the support provided in the social news sites such as Hacker News, Reddit, and Slashdot, plus the journalists who covered the story, the suspension might have continued.

As a proud & patriotic American, I am embarrassed and ashamed of what is happening to my country. I didn't get any email on this, and didn't even notice it, since I am only trying out this service on a new site, but I am shocked and enraged to read this post about what happened.
Is there a complete story about what happened from start to finish somewhere online that I can read? I'd like to get all of the information I can on this, including any response the Secret Service might have on this, and then shed as much light on this as I can through my own following.
Thanks!

Why cant you style forms in normal way ??? I was trying out yr forms some years ago and now, nothing changed!!!
'There are incomplete required fields. Please complete them.' - you think this text is aligned well ??
And also 'This field is required.' with red background is too much!!! And it works wrong, if the field is empty, you shoudnt show that red bg on mouse:focus !!!
Im realy Angry!! >:/
Take some good designer/developer/interaction designer, or just ask me !!!

I've been a Jotform user for 5+ years. Unfortunately, I did not receive the email about this issue. However, when I started researching the day after it started I was very happy to find the information I needed to address any of my issues.
I would also like to echo all the comments Jotform has received about execellent customer service, quick response, and implementation of viable solutions. I too will continue to recommend, use and support Jotform going forward. Thanks.

My personal trust in the entire Jotform service has not been compromised as a result of this.
The speed in which 'Plan B' was implemented is a credit to Jotform owners and staff.
I will continue to use your services and recommend Jotform to my clients and friends.
I'm glad you are able to put this behind you and continue to move forward.
Kind regards,
Adam Bedford

Well, your issue has brought me to consider using your service and telling friends about it. Before I haven't even heard about your site.
Just some light in the tunnel.

I've just sent a letter to Senator Saxby Chambliss of Georgia that provides a couple of paragraphs of background, and then the following:
"I am writing to you today to ask that you request an explanation from the Secret Service, including asking the Secret Service why they did not request help from Jotform in identifying the bad actor(s) among their customers before shutting down the entire operation. Based on what you find, I ask that you consider whether legislation is necessary to prevent such abuses in the future."
If 534 more of you will write to one senator or one representative, there will be some red faces in Washington next week. If a couple of thousand of you write letters, things would really get stirred up. So, get on with it!

I think most IT departments will be putting plans in place to protect against the US government now.

If I were doing something like Jotform, I'd have a bunch of domains spread across different registrars, and many of the domains registered outside the US. Then I'd "rotate" domains as forms are generated, so the loss of one domain would break perhaps 10% of forms, not all of them.
That's in addition to the things you are already doing, such as acquiring domains for particular customers or allowing customers to use their own domains. The idea is that, even for a single customer, another warrantless take-down might break some, but not all, of their forms.
You might need some, but not all servers, outside the US, too.
25 cents, please.
Of course, I would never have thought of that last week... Planning backup against the actions of one's own government isn't something I think of regularly. Looks like I may have to get used to it.

I'd like to echo the comments of mbrannon47.
You guys are hereoes in my eyes. I have 30 years experience of working in many aspects of IT from programming, systems design, implementation, quality assurance and compliance of systems. The speed of your reaction and workarounds was absolutely incredible. Brilliant.Thanks.

People act like this will be the last encroachment on internet users. Of course, there will be many more headaches and immoral actions coming from those entities that like to abuse internet users, even if a boycott GoDaddy movement begins tomorrow.
Plz think of everything you can to support internet freedoms (support EFF, others accept bitcoins, etc.). Enact those plans and tell your friends to do so as well.
If we start now, we may have to fight hard for only 2 years, instead of 5. But the sooner we start, the sooner we can be free of the stormtrooper tactics used against JotForm.

MOST sad for you and America that you had to endure this. But glad you're up.
PLEASE drop the sycophants at GoDaddy.

I am very happy to see that you are taking this seriously and all the work you are putting forth to ensure this doesn't happen again. My faith has been restored. THANK YOU for not giving your money to GoDaddy anymore!

I think that given the situation you did all you could. You had no notice, no clue, no possibility to solve the problem. You gave a lot of support and immediate answers through your support system. I wish every company worked like that. Of course you could forsee the possibility for the domain to go down, but it's the kind of problems that come from growing fast. I guess you learned the lesson. :-)

I understand that initiatives like SOPA are trying to make the internet a safer place, but is the good their doing outweighing the chaos they are causing? GoDaddy sucks
