Thank you for your interest in volunteering with the Bali Animal Welfare Association (BAWA)! We are a dedicated non-profit organisation working tirelessly to reduce animal suffering and provide a better future for Bali’s animals. We rely on volunteers to exercise and socialise our rescued dogs which is imperative for their wellbeing, rehabilitation, socialisation and adoption prospects.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Shifts at BAWA are from 9am-1pm and 1pm-5pm, Monday through to Sunday, and you can sign up for one shift or ideally, many more, and you can also do full days with as many breaks you need! The more time volunteers spend with BAWA, the more rewarding the experience for both the volunteers and the rescued animals. Building rapport with the animals is crucial for their trust and well-being, and prolonged interaction with the same people is highly beneficial.
An average day volunteering at BAWA primarily includes preparing the dogs and going for walks amongst Ubud’s beautiful natural environment. This can mean that you get sweaty and dirty, so it is important to wear sturdy shoes and attire that is culturally and climatically appropriate, and that you aren’t afraid to get a little dogified! Often walking under the hot sun, we encourage you to bring a hat and re-usable water bottle to ensure you stay hydrated.
All of the dogs at BAWA are receiving, or are fully vaccinated against rabies. However, we encourage volunteers to be pre-vaccinated against rabies (2 injections over 1 week) and up to date on a tetanus booster. If you’re vaccinated, it means you can play with the puppies!
