i am using a jotform for a service ticket in the field. it would be nice if our technicians filling out the form could choose from a list of customers already pre-populated in a database or excel file. is that possible?

Unfortunately, we don't have a feature that would allow you prepopulate a field from a database. You can hire a developer to integrate the database to your form. You can use the source codes embed to do that: https://www.jotform.com/help/104-How-to-get-the-Full-Source-Code-of-your-Form.
Another workaround would be to manually update the list in the form. You can use the dropdown field. You can also use our autocomplete widget: https://widgets.jotform.com/widget/autocomp.
