Importing form from an excel file

I have 6 forms, each of them being around 60 questions long. I have the configuration of these forms in excel format. Is it possible to import form configuration into a JotForm from excel / CSV? I understand I might need to change some of the settings later manually, but it would be great to avoid doing it all from scratch...

    Hi olga.ryzhikova,

Thanks for reaching out to Jotform Support. If I understood you correctly, you want to import form submission data from an Excel or CSV file to an existing form. Let me show you how to do it:

        1. Visit import.jotform.io in your browser.

        2. Click on Import Submissions Now. If an authorization popup appears, click on Allow.

        3. Select the form you would like to import data to and click on Continue.

        4. Check out the template formats for Excel and CSV files. Make required modifications to your file.

        5. If you would like to include Submission Dates as well and your file has the corresponding data, check the Include Submission Data column in template file box.

        6. Click on Select Source File button and upload your file, and click on Import.

We also have a guide about Importing Excel or CSV Data into Jotform that you can check out. If you prefer, you might also want to check out this guide about Spreadsheet to Form Widget.

Give it a try and let us know how it goes.

    Hi Alp,

Thank you for getting back to me. My question was actually different. I need to import form configurations, not the submissions.

My excel file includes a list of fields and metadata for each field: type (text, radio, multiple choice, yesno, etc), field title, options, description, placeholder information, etc. Is there a way for me to create a form out of this excel or I have to configure all that information manually in the GUI? I have a lot of questions (350), and configuring each and every one of them manually will take a lot of time.

I see that there is an "Import Form" function in JotForm, but it only allows for limited options:

    Hello Olga,

Thanks for getting back to Jotform Support and for the additional information. I understand that your Excellfile has configurations and functions that you have a setup that you want to appear on your form by importing the Excel file. The importing feature accepts PDF files only which we call Smart PDF.

This is an excellent idea that can be considered by our Developers. I've gone ahead and opened a feature request to our Developers since this is a great addition to our tools. We may not provide you with an ETA and when or if it's developed depending on their workload, how viable it is, and how many other users also request it. As soon as we get an update from them, we will be the ones to reach out.

Let us know if there’s anything else we can do for you.
