How to recover the encryption key installed in web browser

    Hi,

when I set up an encrypted form a few years ago I thought I should have downloaded the decryption key but I can't find it anywhere. I had installed the key in my browser (chrome) and normally used it to decode the forms. However, for the last several months the "view submissions" page just hangs forever. I think it might be caused by some Chrome updates that have broken the decryption in some way. All your help pages on this topic imply that I need to have the key, but it seems the only place I can find it is embedded in this broken browser.

    Can you help?

    thanks

If you think you still have the key on your browser, please do the following:

    1. View the submissions page of one of the encrypted forms.

    2. Press the F12 key on your keyboard.

In Chrome, navigate to the following: Application > Storage > Local Storage > Find "jStorage" from the list. You should see the Private Key:

In Firefox, navigate to the following: Storage > Local Storage > Find "jStorage" from the list. Again, you should find the Private Key:

    3. Double-click the Value and copy the entire text.

    4. This part is a bit technical. If you may, share us a text file of the copied value, and we'll be happy to format the key for you. Send the file to support@jotform.com

Note that if you can't find this in the local storage, I'm afraid the key is already lost. That means your existing submissions are also lost. We suggest cloning the encrypted forms and disabling encryption on the cloned forms.

    Thanks
