Pass text to a field on another form

I have an email set up with the link to pass data to another form.

There is a drop down field on the target form that does not exist on the source form. I would like to pass one of the answers to the source form. What is the correct syntax to do this?

For example, the target form field is set up with 3 options and allows for multiple choices. The options are Red, Blue, Yellow. I would like to pass the word "Blue" to the field on the target form.

    Hi mhmsarasota,

Thank you for contacting Jotform Support. Are you able to share the URL details of both the target form and the source form that you are referring to? If you can share further details that will help us to troubleshoot this issue easily. You can follow this guide in order to post screenshots to our Support forum if needed.

As soon as we hear back from you, we can move forward with a solution.

I would like to be able to pass data from one form to the other. I know how to do this and have done it successfully many times but I am having trouble with drop down fields not working. So I set up 2 test forms to simplify things and I still can't get it to work.

Is it possible to pass data from drop down fields to another form? I just need a simple YES or No

    Source form 1

    Target form 2

I have 1 drop down field (ACTION) set up on both forms. It allows multiple choices.

I have a second drop down field (TargetDropDown) set up only on the TARGET form. It only allows a single choice.

I have an email set up in the SOURCE form with the link set up to pass the data to the TARGET form.

    https://form.jotform.com/242586859283170?name[first]={name:first}&name[last]={name:last}&targetDropDown=Yellow&action=action

    I have 2 problems:

    1. It does not seem like it is possible to pass data from a drop down field. It does not work. Is this correct?
    2. For the TargetDropDown field I would like to pass the answer to the TARGET form - for example, I want the choice for that field to be YELLOW. Is this possible? What is the correct syntax to do this? Does the word YELLOW need to be in brackets or quotes or something?

    Hi mhmsarasota,

Yes, it is possible to pass the value from the dropdown field to another form. Here's my demo form. I checked your forms, the target form has additional dropdown field while the source form do not have that field. I'm a bit confused on how you want to pass the dropdown field value for colors to your source code. Note that you have to add another field where you want to place the dropdown value from the target source.

Right now, it seems that you're trying to pass a value, but there's nowhere we can place that value. If that's the case, I think prefill will be the right choice to use instead of passing the value.

If that’s not exactly what you’re looking for, can you explain a bit more so I can help you better?

Can you show me the link you used to pass the data from the drop down? It did not work on my form for the ACTION field that is on both forms.

In my scenario the SOURCE form is passing data to the TARGET form.

Yes, I know that the target form (the one receiving the passed data) has an extra field than the source form (the form sending the data). I am trying to pass a value to the field on the target form.

    Hi mhmsarasota,

Here's an example link that my colleague used for the demo form he provided above. Take a look at the screenshot below:

I checked your source form and I couldn't find the process you're taking in passing the value to the target form. Can you please show us how you're doing it so that we can better assist you? We’ve got a guide here that’ll show you how to do that.

Once we hear back from you, we'll be able to move forward with a solution.
