Email Subject line adding spaces on its own

    Hello Jotform,
When tailoring the email subject line for a Form in our list, Jotform appears to add a space where there shouldn't be a space. That space is affecting the population of fields in our software.

We integrate the Name, Location, and other fields with fields within our own software.
To do so, we add "Name=" and insert the appropriate Form Field to have it populate a field on our end.
However, each time I enter that information in the email subject, a space appears between the = and the Form Field choice as soon as I click out of the email subject line.
The same thing occurs for any other Form Fields I select to add to the line.

In the screenshot I have attached, on the left is the email subject line when I haven't clicked away. On the right is the email subject line after I have clicked away. A space is evident between the = and the Form Field for Name.

    Hi Workhub,

Thanks for reaching out to Jotform Support. Since using ''='' is affecting the population of the field on your end, please try other methods. If other syntax allowed on your software, can you try to use curly braces? for example {Name} instead of Name= to see if it resolves the issue. Check out the sample below:

I have experienced this as well. It doesn't have anything to do with the "Name=", because I don't use that. If you use a form field object, it will automatically add a space before and after that form field object.

    Hi Workhub,

I see that adding the unique name in the subject line manually does not work. As a workaround, you can create a field that will be your Subject Line value instead. Let me walk you through the process:

    1. Add a Short Text element and hide it.Email Subject line adding spaces on its own Image 1 Screenshot 40
    2. Use an Update/Calculate Field condition to insert a value to the hidden Short Text field. In your case, use the condition below:Email Subject line adding spaces on its own Image 2 Screenshot 51

    Here's the result:

Thank you for the option. I've tried it out, and I'm getting a "Please make the necessary corrections before saving." message, without any indication of what the error(s) that need correcting are.

    Hi Workhub,

You just need to make sure that all characters are treated as strings instead of numbers. Simply click on the characters highlighted in blue to convert them into a string. Once converted, the characters will be highlighted in grey, indicating they are now strings. Check the screenshot for the condition below:

Thank you very much for the assistance. Once I switched the contents of my email subject in the form settings to ask for that particular Email Subject field, it delivered as expected.

Is there any expected change to remove that insertion of the space in the email subject when adding a Form Field? It's extremely inconvenient to have to create hidden fields in each form, especially if many users already have their forms set up appropriately using the email subject. Please let me know if that addition of a space will be fixed. Thank you!

    Hi Workhub,

The space generated in the Subject Line are applied to all the forms be default. Unfortunately, there are currently no possible way to remove or change this aside from using the workaround mentioned on the previous reply.

Keep us updated and let us know if you need any more help.

May I ask why that space has been added to the subject line?

    Hello Workhub,

Unfortunately, the spaces between the characters are the default format of the subject line in Jotform. If you wish, you can submit a feature request to remove those spaces. However, when or if it's implemented depends on their workload, how viable it is, and how many other users request it. If there are any updates, we’ll circle back to this thread and let you know.

Reach out again if you need any more help.

This used to work previously without the added spaces because it is currently being used in some of our older forms. It is just on the new forms or any form that we edit that this seems to be an issue. Which is extremely inconvenient.

    Hi Workhub,

While the feature you’re looking for isn’t currently available, rest assured we’re always working to add new services and features to Jotform. I've gone ahead and escalated your request to our Developers. When or if it's implemented depends on their workload, how viable it is, and how many other users request it. If there are any updates, we’ll circle back to this thread and let you know. As a workaround, just kindly follow the steps provided by my colleague here.

Reach out again if there’s anything else we can do for you.
