    Hallo

I have 10 rating scale fields which a rater can allocate 1-5 depending on your liking. I want to add a total column to display the percentage received for the 10 fields out of 5. Please assist. In other words 4 out of 5 is 80% but I want a total average.

    Hope it makes sense

    Kind regards

    Hi Werner,

Thanks for reaching out to Jotform Support. It is possible to calculate the percentage of the scale fields by using the form calculation widget. Let me show you how:

    1. In Form builder, click Add Form Element.
    2. In Form Elements, click on Widgets tab.
    3. Search for Form Calculation widget.

    4. Then, in Form Calculation widget, click on Add Field.
    5. Add your scale rating fields and use addition icon for adding.
    6. Click on Save.

    7. Add another form calculation widget to get the percentage.
    8. In Form Calculation Widget, use the formula:

    9. Click on Save.

Please have a look at the only form created on this account. It is a bursary application for which the managers must complete to indicate the applicant's attitude and ability in the workplace. So I want after they submitted the form go to a HR officer to so a total % which the participant scored, Which wil play a key criteria if the bursary will be allocated.
    Hope it make sense.
    Kind regards

    Hi Werner,

By saying you want to have the average, do you mean the total average of each question percentage? Like, do you want to get the percentage from the rating first for each question before calculating the average? If so, just update the formula in the calculation widget suggested by my colleague with the one below (I just changed the field labels from Score to Total Percentage and Percentage to Average):

    For Total Percentage:

    For Average:

Also, are you referring to the email that will be sent to the approver once someone fills out the form? If so, you can edit your approval email and add the Average field just above the Approve or Deny option. Let me show you how:

    1. From your form's Approval flow, hover on the approval and click on the gear icon to open Approval Properties.
    2. From there, click the Edit Email button under Notification Emails section. How to calculate scale rating percentage Image 3 Screenshot 92

An Approval Request Email Properties window should appear. Follow the steps below to add the Average field:

    1. This is optional but add a text that will help the responder identify that it is the Average. In the screencast below, I added Average: text.
    2. Click the Form Fields button from the Email Content tools.
    3. Select the Average field on the dropdown. This will add a placeholder in the email where the average will appear.
    4. Finally, Click Save to save your changes. How to calculate scale rating percentage Image 4 Screenshot 103

Here are the screencast and screenshot of the results:

If that’s not exactly what you’re looking for, can you explain a bit more, so we can help you better? It would also help us to understand what’s happening if you could take a screenshot and send it to us. We have a guide here explaining how to do that.

That’s it. Give it a try and let us know if there’s anything else we can help you with.
