Will there be a fund withheld with Payment Authorization?

If I set up a payment form and choose to not "Charge Customer Immediately" in the Payment Authorization settings(and elect to charge at a later date), will there be a hold on the card in perpetuity? Will there be an amount withheld from the credit balance limit of the card holders?

    Thank you

    Hi providers_providers573,

Thanks for reaching out to Jotform Support. Yes, the Payment Authorization feature allows you to collect the credit card information and hold the funds without the actual charging before you manually approve the transaction. It's really easy to set up. Let me show you how:

    1. In Form Builder, click your payment field.
    2. Click the Wand icon to open the Payment Settings.
    3. Select the Settings icon at the top-right side of the Payment Settings menu.

    5. Scroll down, and expand the Additional Gateway Settings.

    6. Toggle Yes for Authorization Only.

Also, Payment Processors have different durations for the expiration of the authorization link. We have a guide here that you can check to learn more about How to Enable Payment Authorization.

Thank you for that explanation. I have one follow up. Let's say for example, I want to hold the card, but I only want to put a $1 hold so that I have the information on file. Can I then go back and change the amount before I charge the card? I am looking specifically to get a card on file for potential future use, but the amount that will ultimately be charged will not be the same every time.

    Hi providers_providers573,

Unfortunately, changing the amount after a submission is not possible. The only available option is to ask the user for a new submission with the updated amount.

Give it a try and let us know if you need any help.
