Form source code issue, won't submit and get stuck on ''please wait''

    Hi,

I've taken the source code of one of my forms (as explained here), so that I could play around with one of the widgets. The reason being, I was trying to get a dropdown widget to get its options from an external source, specifically Google Sheets, as per one of my recent questions here.

Eventually I managed to get the form to do this, and generally render and function as I wanted... except that it won't submit. When I click on the 'Submit' button, it changes to 'Please wait...' and just hangs. (I've waited at least 5-10 minutes, so I don't think it's just a case of it being a bit slow!)

Are these 'source code' forms not meant to actually work at all, are they just for looks? Or is there something I need to tweak to get it to work?

The form whose source code I'm using had an integration to Google Sheets. Is that likely to be the problem, eg. can't it authenticate the connection, or something? Would using a different integration help?

    Thanks,

    Roope

    Hi Roope,

Thanks for reaching out to Jotform Support. Can you send me the link to your form or your website, so I can take a look at it for you?

After we hear back from you, we’ll have a better idea of what’s going on and how to help.

    Hello Roope,

Can we do a test submission on the form on your website so we can test out the issue? Also, since you're adding the form to your website can you try to use the Embed method instead of using the source code? Embedding your form on a webpage is really easy. Let me show you how:

    • In Form Builder, in the orange navigation bar at the top of the page, click on Publish.
    • In the menu on the left side of the page, click on Embed.
    • Now, click on the embed option you want to use, and copy the code.
    • That's it. Embed your link on your webpage and you're done.

Alternatively, we also have way to use iFrames to embed your form into your website. You can check our guide here to learn more about this.

Once we hear back from you, we'll be able to help you with this.

Embedding it (whether by way of iFrame or otherwise) straight from Jotform won't work, because I need to edit the source code with an html editor. In other words, I prepare the form in Jotform until it's almost ready, then extract the source code, make my edits (change it to get the dropdown options from an external source), and only then want to use it.

    Hi Roope,

Thanks for your patience. I cloned and carefully tested your form and I was able to replicate the issue using an HTML editor. So I've gone ahead and escalated this issue to our developers team. Once we have an update, we will circle back to this thread.

    Okay, thanks.

While we wait, I have a question related to this. I can get the source code for my forms, work on them, and publish them elsewhere, which is what I've done with this one. My question is, can I publish them back on the Jotform platform? In other words, can I edit the source code of one of my live forms here, and save the changes here, rather than publish them somewhere else?

    Best,

    Roope

    Hi Roope,

If you download the source code of the form and make edits, it is not possible to save those changes in the form builder. The form will only save the changes made within the form builder.

Reach out again if you have any other questions.
