How can I separate the answers to "Other" in multiple choice field?

A number of questions in our survey were multiple choice, with users able to check more than 1 option, including the Other box, where they wrote their answers in text. But the Jotform data lists all the answers to each multiple choice question together in one cell. How can I isolate or otherwise identify the text answers to the Other option so we can read and analyze them?

    Hi Nancy,

Thanks for reaching out to Jotform Support. It looks like you are using Card Forms. If you enable the Display Other option in the Multiple-choice element, users will be able to enter data there. Unfortunately, the feature you are looking for to show the other option the user enters in the separate column on the Table is not currently available. However, you can work around this by disabling the Display Other Option and including Other as one of the options. Then, you can set up conditions to display another short text element if the user selects the Other option. Let me show you how:

    1. In Form Builder, click on the Multiple-choice Element and click on the Gear icon.
    2. In the Options Tab, toggle the Display Other Option button to the OFF position.
    3. Under the Options box, add a new option Other.
    4. Click on the Add Form Element menu on the left side of the page and add a Short Text element. How can I separate the answers to Other in multiple choice field? Image 1 Screenshot 40

Now, let us add a condition to show the Short text element if the user selects the other option.

    1. Click on the Settings tab from the orange navigation bar.
    2. Click Conditions on the left menu.
    3. Select the SHOW/HIDE FIELD condition.
    4. Add condition as shown below:
    5. In IF, select the Multiple-choice element.
    6. In STATE, select Is Equal To.
    7. In Value, select Other.
    8. In DO, select Show from the dropdown.
    9. In Field, select the Short Text element you added and click on the Save button. How can I separate the answers to Other in multiple choice field? Image 2 Screenshot 51

That's it. Now, when the other option is selected, it will show the Short Text element to enter the data. Check out the screenshot below to see the result:

Give it a try and let us know how it goes.

This would have been so helpful to know before we conducted the survey and will certainly be useful should we ever use Jotform again. However my problem is with data ALREADY COLLECTED. Is there any way to force Jotform to show us what people have written in response to Other, separate from all the other options they checked?

    Hi Nancy,

Unfortunately, as my colleague previously stated, it is not possible to separate the entered "Other" options from the Multiple Choice element into a new column on the submission table. In addition, when the "Other" option is selected in the Single/Multiple choice field, it appears in the submission table with a white font color highlighted in gray.

Let us know if you need any more help.
