    Hello,

A form was created with encryption accidentally enabled. How do I find the encryption key?

    Thanks.

    Hi Mbackus,

Thanks for reaching out to Jotform Support. To disable encryption on a specific form, you can do that through the Form Settings. Let me show you how to do it:

    1. In Form Builder, click Settings.
    2. Choose Form Settings and on Encrypt form data change the status to No.

    3. Then click Yes, Disable.

    Hi Mark,

We did that, but we have form submissions that are encrypted. The form was created on 4/10 or 4/11, but I don't see a Key in my downloads or email. I don't delete either.

Would the encryption key come via email? Or would it come via download?

And where do I enter this key?

    Thanks,

    Adam

    Hi Adam,

To access the old messages you would need to find your private key as the private key is required to access the old submissions. Unfortunately, you will not be able to use your new key to decrypt your old data. If you opted to download the key on your default download folder, you would most likely find it on your Downloads folder. The private key file extension is .key so you can use that to search your private key on your system/device or downloads folder.

When you try to view an encrypted submission, you will be asked to upload your private key. This is where you will use the private key. Upload the key, and once you click the Done button, you will automatically see the submission.

However, if you forgot to download the private key for your encrypted form before then there is no way to decrypt the current submissions on your form.

If you have used Chrome, you can try following the steps provided on this thread here.

Give it a try and reach out again if you have any other questions.
