CulturalDC is excited to announce the launch of the Mobile Art Gallery, an initiative that will bring the arts closer to every corner of DC. In the Mobile Art Gallery – the visual arts programming component of CulturalDC – CulturalDC will continue its strong history of presenting cutting edge artwork and artists through a mobile container gallery. The Mobile Art Gallery allows artists to transform a fully-outfitted 40ft container into an immersive environment. The container will move across the city for the ____ season, with a new exhibit in every neighborhood it visits.
Successful applications to this program will use the container to its fullest potential—transforming the space into something uniquely their own. Each exhibition must also propose corresponding programming that will engage the surrounding community. Proposals that reflect specific communities in DC and make use of local partnerships will be given preference in the selection process.
Quick Container Facts
- It will move every 4-6 weeks, with a new exhibition in each location
- It will run on solar power and operate completely off the grid

- It is 40ft long, 8ft wide, and 9ft high, interior dimensions are expected to be 38ft x 7ft x 8ft
- The standard steel doors will be kept as outer doors but there will be two interior glass doors on either end of the container so that it can be open and inviting but also temperature controlled
