Patient response can vary after a Glow Time Laser Facial treatment. Erythema (redness) and possibly edema (swelling) are the desired responses within a few minutes after the completion of the procedure. The degree of redness and length of healing time will increase with the depth of your peel.
Aquaphor/Aloe Mask: (Days 1-3)
Do not wash face until day 4 unless directed otherwise.
Keep face lathered (goopy) at all times during the first 3 days.
Do not let skin dry out. We want to prevent scabbing which leads to scarring.
Vinegar Soak:
Begin using a vinegar soak 3-4 times daily beginning the day of your treatment to promote healing and provide antiseptic benefits.
Mix 1 teaspoon of plain white vinegar to 2 cups of cool water.
This solution my be mixed up ahead of time and kept in the refrigerator.
Dip your washcloth into soak and dab onto face for about 2 minutes.
Days 1-3 soak should be applied over Aloe/Aquaphor mask.
Showering:
It is okay to shower, but do not allow direct water to hit treatment site or any sort of products.
No picking, peeling or scrubbing the skin in any way while healing.
Allow the skin to slough off on its own.
After the skin has finished sloughing (typically day 8), you may exfoliate using a gentle scrub, Clarisonic Brush or washcloth.
Post Treatment Expectations:
Avoid excessive sweating or exercise.
It is normal for the skin to feel “sunburned” and/or tight.
The skin may be red or the first 3-7 days (or longer) post treatment, and then turn darker as the skin begins to slough.
It is normal to feel as though the skin looks “older” 1-2 weeks post treatment until the skin regains its hydration content.
The skin will continue to improve over the next 6 to 8 weeks as cellular regeneration continues to take place.
Possibility of Edema (Swelling)
Elevate your head on two pillows to decrease swelling.
Please know that edema is most common under the eye area.
Please ice twenty minutes per hour, maximum. You may use a frozen bag of peas or a baggie filled with ice and small amount of water. Do not apply directly to skin, wrap in a soft cloth before allowing the ice pack to touch the treated area
Post Treatment comfort measures:
Ibuprofen or acetaminophen may be used if needed for swelling/inflammation.
Antihistamine such as Benadryl or Zantac my be used to ease itching.
Cold packs may be applied post-treatment to ease any temporary discomfort.
Discomfort usually resolves by day 5, but may last longer in some patients.
If the skin is broken or a blister appears, apply antibiotic ointment (Neosporin or Polysporin) and call us.
