The nomination must include the nominee's CV and a letter of recommendation that includes detailed reasons for the nomination and describe attributes and qualifications possessed by the nominee in order of priority as follows:
- Career-long scientific prominence in antiviral research evidenced by funded research programs, corporate leadership, publications, presentations, etc.
- Service to the field of antiviral research such as serving on study sections, editorial boards, and in leadership of professional societies.
- In addition to scientific preeminence, the recipient should have some of the qualities typical of "Trudy" -- a genuine love of science, admired and respected, a reputation for scientific integrity, and approachability -especially to young investigators.
- Personal ties to Dr. Elion would be considered positive but not necessary.
