Newburyport Art is pleased to introduce a new iniative to feature its members on a regular basis: Artist Member Spotlights!
About the new dedicated space for Member Spotlights
In early 2022, Newburyport Art enlisted its Artist-in-Residence Erin Bligh to transform the hallway and staircase that link the Sargent and Hartson Galleries. The end result is breathtaking and has undoubtedly caught the eye of visitors, leading them seamlessly from gallery to gallery.
In addition to serving as a bridge between two galleries, this space will now host this ongoing rotation of Member Spotlights.
We strongly encourage you to visit Newburyport Art to look at the space yourself. In the meantime, below are a few pictures that show the majority of wall space available (as marked out with red outlines/boxes)
- Picture #1, three distinct areas marked out on the ground floor, with clear visibility within the Sargent Gallery.
- Picture #2, one large wall space opposite the wall in Picture #1.
- Picture #3, top of the staircase with two distinct sections marked off.
- Picture #4, the wall space marked off on the left side of the picture is the same wall space marked off on the right side of Picture #3. The large window ledge/area is available for art placement (including a hanging track above).
Eligibility
This opportunity is open to NAA Artist Members -- of all ages and/or artist level -- working in any medium. If you are unsure of your membership status, please email us at naa@newburyportart.org or call during gallery hours (Tue-Sat 11am-5pm or Sun 1-5pm). If you are not a current member, you can learn more and quickly join online (or visit us during gallery hours).
Please note that while this opportunity is open to artists working in any medium, the space can only be fully utilized by hanging 2D artworks.
Artist & date selection process
Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis. We anticipate each artist's Spotlight will last approximately two weeks. In some cases, a Spotlight may run longer at no extra cost to the artist.
Everyone who holds an Artist Membership and has paid the $75 fee will be guaranteed a Spotlight.
Dates will be proposed by the Executive Director together with the Gallery Manager, at which time artists can accept or, if needed, attempt to collaborate on new date(s). When appropriate, Newburyport Art may propose dates to the artist that intentionally coincide with and complement other exhibitions in the galleries. The artist will be offered a basic NAA gallery agreement for use of the space.
Fees and sales
- There is a one-time $75 Spotlight fee paid to the NAA, collected at the time of this application submission.
- Artwork on display during a Member Spotlight can be for sale or "not for sale".
- The NAA retains a commission of 20% of works sold.
- Works will be handled with all possible care. The NAA provides insurance up to 75% of the value declared by the artist from the day of receipt of the artwork through the designated pickup window. The NAA is not responsible for any work delivered or picked up outside of the designated dropoff/pickup windows.
A final word
As this is a new initiative, Newburyport Art plans to evaluate the Artist Member Spotlight series every few months. Terms are subject to change.
