Creek Week Events:
- Drain Marker Pop-up at Greenhaven Park (Thursday, June 6, 9 - 11 am): Free. For ages 10 and up with parental supervision. Want to help our aquatic ecosystems? Grab a friend and join Water Resources to help adhere drain markers to storm drains at Greenhaven Park. Markers serve as a reminder that “only rain should go down the drain” as storm drains in the City of Greensboro lead to our lakes and streams. All supplies will be provided. Please wear closed-toed shoes.
- Native Aquatic Plants Info and Make-N-Take (Thursday, June 6, 4-5pm): Free. For ages 10+ with parent supervision. Location: Reconsidered Goods, 4118 Spring Garden St. Who's feeling crafty? Reconsidered Goods is hosting a Native Aquatic Plant Make-N-Take. Join Laine Roberts, Water Resources Public Education Coordinator, to learn about native aquatic plants and their importance to water systems. Then, stay for a Make-N-Take of your very own native aquatic plant display! All supplies will be provided.
- Revolution Mill Stream Restoration Walk and Talk (Friday, June 7, 6 – 7 pm): Free. For all ages. Location: Revolution Mill at 2003 Yanceyville Rd., Greensboro 27405 (Additional information provided after registration). Join us for an evening at Revolution Mill as we start with a talk about the history of the site and urban streams then walk around to see the stream restoration project recently completed and the benefits it has had in the community. Dr. Praskievicz from UNCG as well as Grace Messinger and Alex Ashton from Piedmont Conservation Council will share insights into the stream restoration components of the project. This site includes portions of the North Buffalo Greenway. Bring the family out, continue the conversation and join the group after for pizza Cugino Forno for dinner. (self-pay)
- Rehobeth Wetland Program and Cleanup (Saturday, June 8, 2 – 4 pm): Free. For ages 10 and up with parental supervision. Rehobeth Church Rd. (Additional information provided after registration). The Rehobeth Wetland is approximately 36 acres of land, including the stream channel and the adjacent floodplain of the South Buffalo Creek, and a developed in-stream wetland pollution control facility. Join the City of Greensboro’s Stormwater Superintendent, Ray Johnson, as he takes a deep dive into the project created by developing a riparian wetland in the bottomlands of the stream and vegetated riparian buffers along the banks of the creek.
The talk will be followed by a Wetland Cleanup where you can explore the area and see the effectiveness of the wetland. All supplies will be provided. Closed toed shoes and long pants are required, boots or galoshes are encouraged! Bring a hat, sunscreen, bug spray, and water if needed.
